Very suddenly, Miranda found herself being pushed into the kitchen by Arin.
"Go get 'em, tiger," the waif piped, giving her a playful pat on the rear. The swinging double doors closing gave her butt an additional slap.
Vander House's kitchen was spacious, but there weren't any hiding spots big enough for the busty blonde. Miranda was alone in the room. Oh god- Paula must have heard them talking! The doors had been closed, but they hadn't done the best job of modulating their voices. She was sure she had said some paranoid things in lieu of just admitting her jealousy. That must have caused Paula to leave out the back door.
Well, it wasn't healthy to jump to the worst conclusion. There were other places for the girl to be- like the pantry. Maybe she was hungry. Miranda doubted that though. There was plenty of goodies in the kitchen itself, and none of them looked like they had been disturbed. Miranda flicked on the pantry light, seeing nothing but shelved food.
She went to resume her search, but a sudden hunger pang caused her to flinch. Her stomach growled. She was starving! In fact, she hadn't felt this famished since her secret eating episodes at the start of the year. Maybe she could afford to pause long enough for a quick snack. Miranda's fingers almost brushed the cylindrical container of strawberry frosting before she drew them back.
Judging by how her earlier binges went, stopping before she was full to the point of bursting would be impossible. She needed to stay on task and find Paula so she could fix things with her. Food could wait. Miranda lurched out of the pantry a bit dizzily, and proceeded to check the bathroom. Nope. She opened the door to the basement. Miranda was too wide to squeeze down the narrow staircase, so instead she yelled "Paula!"
She heard a grunt, but it was coming from further back in the house, not below. "Paula?"
